About the volunteering opportunity

To mark International Democracy Day on September 15, 2025, Berlin will once again take a stand to strengthen democratic values and social cohesion. The main participatory festival marking this day of action—organized by the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin—showcases the diverse commitment of numerous Berlin-based associations, democracy projects, and NGOs, and offers hands-on activities, workshops, and discussions.

We will help with setup, support the event, and assist with takedown in two shifts.

Please sign up for the time slot during which you’d like to help (Shift 1: 9 a.m.–1 p.m. or Shift 2: 1–6 p.m.).

Your Tasks

Depending on the shift, possible tasks include the following:

  • Support for stage management
  • Support at the open workshop tent (contact person for participants, support for the workshop leader)
  • Assistance with signposting around the event venue
  • General stewarding activities (e.g. contactability, maintaining an overview, providing uncomplicated support, road closure stewarding activities)
The specific activities will be assigned on site as "jumpers" as required and desired.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
A certain level of physical fitness is helpful for participation in the campaign, as we are mainly outdoors and will be actively involved. Openness, team spirit and the joy of making a difference together are also important.

What to bring

Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for the weather and sturdy shoes, as the activity takes place outdoors. If necessary, also remember to bring sun protection, such as sun cream.

There will be drinks and a few food stalls on site where you can buy something to eat. You are also welcome to bring your own food.
