About the volunteering opportunity

An estimated 10,000 people live without shelter in Berlin. Numerous non-profit organizations are committed to improving the situation of these people. For example, they offer places to sleep and meals and provide social support and assistance in finding a job. The services offered by these organizations are also increasingly being used by people affected by poverty, who can also be supported through their commitment.

As part of this campaign, we prepare nutritious sandwiches together. These will then be handed over to the Berliner Stadtmission and Johanniter Unfallhilfe.

Please register for the shift in which you would like to help.

Your Tasks

You have the opportunity to take on different tasks. There will be a total of five stations in the following order:

  1. Slicing bread rolls
  2. Spread butter on bread rolls
  3. Wash and cut vegetables
  4. Topping bread rolls
  5. Wrapping and labeling greased rolls.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.

What to bring

All materials and ingredients are on site, you don't need to bring anything with you.

Important notice

We spread the sandwiches in 3 layers. There’s a 15-minute break between the first and second shifts, and a one-hour break between the second and third shifts until 1:30 p.m. for lunch. During this time, we’ll clean up and prepare everything for the third shift.

There are also “Pfizer Volunteer” T-shirts available again in sizes M, L, XL, and XXL for women, and S, M, L, XL, and XXL for men. You can pick these up on the 3rd floor from Christiane Fleiter.

Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe und Berliner Stadtmission

Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe has been active in a wide variety of social and charitable areas since it was founded in 1952. The Johanniter are involved in rescue and medical services, disaster control, care and nursing for the elderly, sick and refugees, transport services for people with limited mobility, work with children and young people, hospice work and other charitable aid, as well as humanitarian aid abroad, for example in the event of famine and natural disasters.

The Berlin City Mission has been meeting the needs of the people of Berlin since 1877. In 20 city mission parishes, over 40 diaconal institutions and 11 guest houses and hotels, the Berlin City Mission creates prospects, especially on the fringes of our society. From November to March, for example, the cold bus team saves homeless people from freezing to death on cold winter nights and brings them to a sheltered emergency overnight stay. The Berlin City Mission is concerned with every single person, with trust and confidence.
